Fox and Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade was criticized after he shared a groan-worthy excuse for why former President Donald Trump keeps confusing President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama.

During a recent speech, Trump referred to Biden as "President Obama" while discussing Hungary's President Viktor Orbán. Trump claimed that Orbán advised Obama to resign immediately and be replaced by Trump.

This is not the first time Trump has misidentified Obama as the current president. In fact, it's becoming a regular feature of Trump's speeches of late, leading many to question Trump's mental acuity.

Kilmeade, however, jumped in to defend Trump's repeated use of "President Obama," asserting that Trump genuinely believes Obama is orchestrating the actions of the current administration behind the scenes.

You can hear what he said in the video below.

Kilmeade said:

“Donald Trump keeps saying that because he believes Obama is pulling the strings. I talked to him off camera about that, I talked to him on radio about that."
"I said — I corrected him on the radio interview, I said, ‘You mean Joe Biden.’ He said no… He’s convinced Barack Obama’s running the country."
"That’s why he says it. He wants you to think that.”

During Kilmeade's explanation, radio host Leslie Marshall, also appearing on the show, reacted with skepticism and laughter. Dismissing Kilmeade's defense, Marshall humorously suggested that he should be Trump's campaign manager.

And no one else was buying it either.

Trump's tendency to make historical misstatements is not a new phenomenon given that in September, he claimed victory against Obama in an election, despite never running against him.

He has also suggested that Obama is actively involved in current political affairs and meddling in the Biden administration.

Trump previously said that the country has "never been worse than it is now under crooked Joe Biden, and frankly, his boss, Barack Hussein Obama," employing the former President's middle name in a move critics said would only stir his Islamophobic supporters.
