Pro-Trump Group Tied to Roger Stone Urging Georgia Republicans to Write in Trump for Senate

Though outgoing President Donald Trump still refuses to acknowledge it, President-elect Joe Biden defeated him in the 2020 election.

But while Democrats will control the White House and the House of Representatives, an urgent outcome is yet to be determined: control of the Senate.

In January, Republicans will hold at least 50 seats in the United States Senate, while Democrats will have at least 48. Two of the seats—both in Georgia—are yet to be determined.

If Democrats can secure victories in both races of the Georgia runoffs, the Senate will be split evenly with 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans, leaving soon-to-be Vice President Kamala Harris to break any ties.

In an interesting twist, one pro-Trump political action committee is urging Republican voters to either stay home on the January election day or to write in Trump's name on their ballot (there is not an option to write in a candidate on Georgia runoff ballots).

The PAC, known as the Committee for American Sovereignty, believes this will force Republican lawmakers to take action against what the group falsely believes was an illegitimate election.

The group says on its website:

"With enough write-ins in the Georgia senate race, we can tilt the balance in Georgia in Trump's favor! If we can do this, we have a real chance at getting these RINO senators to act on the illegitimate and corrupt election presided over by a Democrat party that is invested in the Communist takeover of Our Great Nation. We will not stop fighting for you, the American Patriot, against the evils of Socialism and inferior Religions. This is a Christian Nation and will be as long as we fight, together, for our sovereignty."

Committee for American Sovereignty has ties to Republican provocateur and convicted felon, Roger Stone. In 2016, Stone worked with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to publish the emails of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's campaign manager, which were accessed through hacks originating in Russia.

Stone was convicted for tampering with witnesses and lying to authorities, but Trump helped him evade his 40 month prison sentence by commuting it.

The PAC's effort to jeopardize a Republican Senate majority is, perhaps unsurprisingly, being welcomed by Democrats.

Biden is the first Democrat to win the state of Georgia in a presidential election since 1992. People are hoping the Peach State's motivated voters will secure two more Democratic victories.

The stakes couldn't be higher.

The Georgia runoffs will be held on Tuesday, January 5th.
