Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Just Perfectly Shut Down Republicans Who Booed Her For Voting for Nancy Pelosi, and People Are Cheering

WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 03: Member elect Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) talks to fellow members of Congress during the first session of the 116th Congress at the U.S. Capitol January 03, 2019 in Washington, DC. Under the cloud of a partial federal government shutdown, Speaker designate Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will reclaim her former title as speaker and her fellow Democrats will take control of the House of Representatives for the second time in eight years. Freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Thursday fired back at Republicans who booed her for voting to elect Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as the 52nd Speaker of the House.

Pelosi claimed the speakership for the second time, defeating California Republican Kevin McCarthy 220-192.

Ocasio-Cortez, 29, was the only member of Congress to receive jeers from the opposing party. She has drawn national attention since her upset primary victory over Joe Crowley, formerly the 4th most powerful Democrat in the House, last year.

"Over 200 members voted for Nancy Pelosi today, yet the GOP only booed one: me," Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter following the vote. "Don’t hate me cause you ain’t me, fellas."

Twitter exploded with support for the youngest member of Congress.

Republicans clearly fear her star power and unapologetic progressive populism.

Sorry boys, she is just getting started.

As she made her way through the Capitol to be sworn in, Ocasio-Cortez was warmly greeted by Capitol employees.
