So it turns out former Republican President Donald Trump seems to have dug his own grave, so to speak, when it comes to any charges he might face for allegedly mishandling classified documents.

During his term as President, he signed a 2018 bill into law that changed the penalty for doing so and made the crime a felony.

The bill amended the legislation governing consequences for removing classified materials to increase the possible prison sentence from 1 year to 5 years.

While no specific details as to why the FBI suddenly raided Mar-a-Lago last week have been released, it has been widely reported the raid likely had to do with classified documents the former President failed to turn over to the National Archives.

The contents of the allegedly mishandled documents have not yet been disclosed, nor has their potential impact on national security, but many speculated there must be something important contained in the documents to warrant such a sudden and thorough search.

Twitter users were highly amused by the whole situation, including Tennessee Democratic Senator Jeff Yarbro.

It remains to be seen whether any charges will be filed against Trump, but if they are, the very sticky situation he might find himself in will be entirely of his own making—in more ways than one.
