Mitch McConnell Told Corporate CEOs to 'Stay out of Politics' and People Immediately Brought Receipts

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky on Monday had a message for CEOs and corporations.

In a presser at the Capitol, McConnell stated:

"My advice to the corporate CEOs of America is to stay out politics."

You can see McConnell's remarks here:

This was a drastic departure from McConnell's prior defense of corporations in politics—in regards to Citizens United and corporate campaign donations—when he stated:

"...every corporation in America should be free to participate in the political process, not just the ones that own newspapers and TV stations."

The hypocrisy of McConnell's new position was not lost on the public.

McConnell's prior stance was related to large donations he was receiving on behalf of corporations. His new stance is because of some of those same corporations opposing Republican attempts to enact voter suppression laws.

McConnell later clarified his position didn't apply if the corporations were writing him a check.

What McConnell will say next is anyone's guess.
