Officials at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention are facing criticism from a Florida woman after they permitted her to take a domestic flight, despite showing flu-like symptoms and visiting Italy, where new cases of the novel coronavirus continue to emerge.

Upon arriving in New York, the woman warned CDC officials about her condition, but they told her that she didn't pose a risk and allowed her to proceed to the connecting flight towards her Florida destination.

The Texas House adjourned a special legislative session yesterday without passing a bill that would have limited transgender people's access to bathrooms in schools and public buildings. The measure, until it died, had the support of Republican Governor Greg Abbott and the Senate, but business leaders and civil rights groups opposed it, arguing it would "advance bigotry" and have negative effects on the state economy.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott took to Facebook Live Sunday night to sign SB4, which bans sanctuary cities in the state of Texas and allows local law enforcement to inquire into the immigration status of anyone they detain for any reason.

SB4 cleared a final hurdle in the state legislature on Wednesday when the state Senate accepted the House version of the bill. SB4 is the culmination of a six year effort by Republicans and a priority for Governor Abbott, who signed an executive order in January banning sanctuary cities, despite of the fact that no jurisdiction within Texas has declared itself a sanctuary city.
