History was changed forever in the summer of 2015 when then-candidate Donald Trump descended down the escalator of New York City's Trump Tower to announce his candidacy in the 2016 election. In the speech, he called immigrants rapists and murderers, immediately thrusting his campaign into its first major controversy.

For the next year and a half, these scandals would continue. Nevertheless, Trump would ascend to the presidency in an upset victory against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, who won the popular vote by three million votes.

Fast forward to four years later, and Trump is yet again campaigning for another term at the presidency, except this time, the public has experienced what a Trump presidency looks like.

In a recent interview with Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports, Trump revealed that the best day of his life was the day before he descended down that escalator.

Watch below.

Trump said:

"The best day in my life in terms of business and life and everything was the day before I announced I'm running for president. Everything was good."

The President's average approval rating has never risen above 50 percent, and it's been steadily plummeting as the public evaluates his virus response and his actions toward the widespread protests against racist police brutality in the United States.

Judging by the numbers, the public largely agrees that, like Trump, they were better off before the discord in response to his campaign and subsequent presidency began.

The Twitter reactions to his statement seem to reflect this as well.

Some thought Trump was setting the stage for a possible loss in November by claiming his life would improve if he weren't President.

We'll know for certain in November.
