Texas Lt. Governor Doubles Down on Bonkers Tucker Carlson Interview: 'There Are More Important Things Than Living'
21 April 2020
Fox News
Fresh off of saying America's grandparents would happily expose themselves to the virus for the chance at a growing economy, Republican Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick returned to Fox News to speak with far-Right host Tucker Carlson.
Once again, Patrick tried to tell Fox viewers that death wasn't really that bad—especially if it meant a chance to revive the economy that was once a talking point in favor of President Donald Trump's reelection.
<p>
Despite the near-unanimous warnings from health experts that a premature return to normalcy would lead to a resurgence of the virus and an untold number of avoidable deaths, Republicans across the country are demanding that temporarily shuttered businesses reopen and that people return to work, no matter the risk.
</p><p>
Patrick echoed those demands on Tucker Carlson's show Monday night.<br>

<strong>Patrick alluded to his prior interview with Carlson before saying:</strong>
</p><blockquote> <em>"What I said when I was with you that night is there are more important things than living. And that's saving this country for my children and my grandchildren and saving this country for all of us. I don't want to die, nobody wants to die, but man we've got to take some risks and get back in the game and get this country back up and running."</em></blockquote><p>Like many Republicans, Patrick is claiming that the death rates are too low to continue demanding that Americans stay at home, not acknowledging that stay-at-home measures are a vital factor in why these death rates are so low.</p><p><div data-conversation-spotlight=""></div></p><p>Once more, he implies that only seniors are at risk of dying from the virus. Sadly, that is far from the truth.</p><p><strong>People were astonished at the argument.</strong></p>

<p>Dan Patrick is virulently anti-abortion—even <a href="https://www.statesman.com/news/news/local/herman-abortion-exceptionalism-in-the-gop-lite-guv/ndC75/#e5ff2779.3657224.735464" target="_blank">in cases of rape and incest</a>. The Texas Lieutenant Governor has frequently backed bills that limit access to safe and legal abortions, as is consistent with his party platform.</p><p><strong></strong><strong>So the irony of him appearing on Fox News to advocate for death over financial uncertainty wasn't lost on anyone.</strong></p>
