What Time do Polls Open & Close for the Boston Mayor's Race 2017?
On November 7, 2017, Boston will go to the polls to vote for mayor. City Councilman Tito Jackson issued a challenge to Incumbent Democrat mayor Marty Walsh.
On November 7, 2017, Boston will go to the polls to vote for mayor. City Councilman Tito Jackson issued a challenge to Incumbent Democrat mayor Marty Walsh. Walsh has the endorsements of The Boston Globe and The Boston Herald.
The candidates for mayor are:
- The aforementioned Walsh, who is the current mayor and has held office since 2014. He is a former member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, where he represented the Thirteenth Suffolk district. During his tenure, Walsh served as the Chairman of the Committee on Ethics. He was also the Co-Chair of the Massachusetts Democratic Party Labor Caucus as well as the co-chair for the Special Commission on Public Construction Reform. Walsh was the president of Laborers Local 223 union until he decided to run for mayor of Boston. Walsh has positioned himself against President Donald Trump and his administration in recent months. He assured Boston's citizens that Boston would remain a sanctuary city for people living in the country illegally after the president and his administration threatened to pull federal funding from cities that decline to prosecute undocumented immigrants who violate federal immigration laws.
- The aforementioned Jackson, who represents council District 7 and an active champion of youth development programs. Initiatives he sits on the boards of include Heading Home and the Global Citizens Circle. Presently, Jackson is the Chair of the Committee on Education, and the Chair of the Special Committee on the Status of Black and Latino Men and Boys. He is also the Vice Chair of the Committee on Healthy Women, Families and Communities.

Polls currently show Jackson trailing behind Walsh by a wide margin. A recent Suffolk University/Boston Globe poll showed Walsh besting him by 35 percent. Walsh received 62 percent of the vote in the primary; Jackson received 29 percent.
