Beto O'Rourke Accuses Texas State Rep of 'Death Threat' for His Now Deleted Response to Beto's AR-15 Buyback Plan
It was only last month that 22 people were murdered by a racist gunman targeting Hispanics in El Paso, Texas, once again bringing gun violence to the forefront of American political issues.
El Paso is the hometown of former congressman and current Democratic Presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke, who suspended campaigning after the shooting to console his constituents and help the town recover before getting back on the campaign trail.
Beto O'Rourke Accuses Meghan McCain of Giving People 'Permission to Be Violent' If His AR-15 Buy Back Program Is Implemented
On Tuesday's season premiere of The View Meghan McCain made an on air declaration that 2020 presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke took exception to. In a heated discussion of the latest mass shooting, McCain extolled the popularity of the AR-15 rifle and stated violence would occur if anyone tried to eliminate or limit access to the weapon.
As part of his campaign platform, Texas born Beto O'Rourke proposed an AR-15 style weapon buyback program. But the former Texas Representative said to The Daily Beast about McCain's statements on national television:
After the Christchurch Shootings, The Internet is Applauding New Zealanders for Surrendering Their Assault Rifles
After a white supremacist terrorist slaughtered 50 Muslim worshipers in Christchurch, New Zealand, the country's Prime Minister immediately announced intentions to ban AR-15's and similar assault weapons.
Now, citizens of New Zealand are following her lead, surrendering their assault rifles for destruction and lessening the chance that the carnage inflicted upon New Zealanders last week doesn't occur again.
Father of Parkland Shooting Victim Just Had the Most Heartbreaking Response to Fox Host Who Called on People to Buy More AR-15s
Fred Guttenberg, the father of slain Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Jaime Guttenberg, blasted Fox News host Peter Hegseth for encouraging viewers to stock up on AR-15s, the type of weapon used in the Parkland, Florida massacre last year.
“Such easy, loose rhetoric of the left,” Hegseth said Sunday. “If I own an AR-15, stocks of gun companies probably will go up after things like this. Responsible gun owners recognize their right to own rifles like that. You can use ‘weapons of war’ or ‘assault ban’ all you want.”
Last May, a deranged student entered Santa Fe High School in Texas and opened fire. Ten people were killed and 10 others were injured. The weapon of choice for the gunman was a .38 caliber revolver.
Over the last year, the nearby town of Texas City is implementing a radical new plan to protect students from potential future attacks: tracking students with computer chips, using facial recognition software to monitor whoever enters the school, and arming security guards with AR-15s, the weapon of choice for most school massacres.
Meghan McCain Just Tried to Call Out Stacey Abrams for Supporting an Assault Weapons Ban, Regretted It Immediately
Stacey Abrams, the Democratic candidate for Georgia governor, smacked down Meghan McCain on The View Tuesday after McCain tried to lob a "gotcha" question at Abrams over her stance on gun rights.
McCain asked Abrams if she supported banning the AR-15, which has been the weapon of choice in dozens of mass shootings in the United States. Most recently, an AR-15 was wielded by a gunman who stormed into a Pittsburgh synagogue on Saturday, killing 11 Jewish worshippers.
