SAG Awards 2018: What to Know

On Jan. 21, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. PST, the finest minds of television and film will celebrate the 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA. The awards ceremony will be dedicated to the best achievements in both mediums throughout the 2017 calendar year. For the first time in its 24-year history, the ceremony will have a host with actress Kristen Bell filling in the role.


Coordinated by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award first came about on Feb. 25, 1995. On Universal Studios’ Stage 12, the first ever SAG awards honored notable names like Tom Hanks, Jodie Foster, Jason Alexander, Helen Hunt, and Raul Julia across 12 different nomination categories.

For the 2018 iteration, there will be 15 nomination categories across film and television including “Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Lead Role” and “Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture.” More than 30 presenters will take the stage to honor their peers.
