Famed far-right televangelist Pat Robertson has built a reputation over the decades for his bonkers conservative rants, accusing gay men of wearing spiked rings to spread HIV/AIDS and frequently blaming atrocities and natural disasters on the sinfulness of humankind.
But when it comes to outgoing President Donald Trump's refusal to accept the reality of his defeat in the 2020 election to President-elect Joe Biden, even Pat Robertson isn't on board.
With some exceptions, Robertson has been all-in on Trump's doctrine over the past four years. Earlier this month, he called on Jesus Christ to assist Trump's efforts to subvert the people's vote.
Now, Robertson is telling Trump to pack up and go home.
Robertson accused Trump of living in an "alternate reality," saying:
"With all his talent and the ability to raise money and draw large crowds, the President still lives in an alternate reality. He really does. People always say that he lies about this, that, and the other, but he isn't lying. To him, that's the truth. ... I think it'll be well to say, 'You've had your day and it's time to move on.'"
As with 2016, President Donald Trump won with a strong majority of white evangelical Christians, like the ones who consume Robertson's show. With so many of the President's supporters completely convinced that Democrats somehow stole the election, it raises the question of whether Robertson's rebuke of Trump will do anything to sway his audience.
When you've lost Pat Robertson...
People were amazed at Robertson's about-face.
President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be inaugurated on January 20th, but even that may not be enough to purge the United States of the alternate reality created by Trump.
