In response to the Parkland, Florida school shooting on Wednesday in which at least 17 people were killed, the New York Daily News is giving Republicans hell for continuing to accept money from the National Rifle Association.

The NY Daily News took to Twitter to chastise the GOP on their profiteering off mass murder, as well as their prayer-only solution to the problem.

They. Did. Not. Hold. Back. Below is a compilation of NY Daily News tweets on this very subject.

The NY Daily News, known for its attention-grabbing headlines, absolutely excoriated the GOP on Twitter. Behold some of the best of their tweets below.

Republicans have refused, for years, to address the gun violence epidemic in the United States, offering only "thoughts and prayers" instead of any sort of meaningful action to stop these completely preventable tragedies from happening. In fact, lobbying from the NRA has pressured Republicans to make it easier for the mentally ill, domestic abusers, individuals on terrorist watch lists to purchase firearms. Republicans are also heavily in favor of so-called "open carry" and "stand your ground laws."

Two Senators in particular, Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Bob Portman (R-OH) drew ire from the Daily News.

Rubio (R-FL) tweeted "Just spoke to Broward School Superintendent. Today is that terrible day you pray never comes."

Here's the NRA's response: " received $90,205 in campaign donations from gun rights groups during the 2015-2016 campaign cycle and received an "A+" grade from the NRA. Rubio has received $3,303,355 over the course of his career as an elected official."

"Heartbreaking news out of Florida. Jane and I send our prayers to the school, the community, and the victims of this tragedy," Portman tweeted.

Once again, the NYDN was merciless: "Portman received $64,877 in campaign donations from gun rights groups during the 2015-2016 campaign cycle and received an "A" grade from the NRA. He's received $3,061,941 from the NRA over the course of his career as an elected official."

Perhaps The Onion says it best in their infamous piece entitled "'No Way To Prevent This,' Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens," which gets updated every time there is a mass shooting in the United States.

This really is the "defining journalistic piece of our time," as Mark Macyk points out.
