Now, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) can be added to the list.
In an article on its website, KCNA lambasted Cruz for unspecified comments that "dared to slander the dignity of the supreme leadership of the [Democratic People's Republic of Korea]," referring to him with insults that make President Donald Trump seem tame.
The article says of Cruz:
"He, therefore, has become notorious not only in the U.S. but even in the Republican Party as 'an ultra-rightist detested by everyone,' 'a liar' and 'a demon in human shape'...His behavior is sure to make everyone take him as a remnant of Nazis with extreme misanthropy or a hysteric psychopath bereft of reason. We will never pardon whoever provokes the dignity of the supreme leadership of our country but will make those pay dearly for what they have done by all means."
The article doesn't clarify which comments Cruz made against North Korea, but does criticize Cruz's past comments expressing skepticism of growing ties between the United States and its enemies.
Though Cruz is a Trump ally now (a reversal from when the two were vying for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination), the senator remains wary of Trump's subservience to North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un. North Korea continues to run missile tests despite Trump touting imminent denuclearization in the past.
It's not often that Americans praise North Korean media, but Ted Cruz had a way of uniting people.
It's unclear which is worse: being called a "demon in human shape" or the Zodiac Killer.
