Lara Trump, the wife of President Donald Trump’s second-eldest son Eric, said Tuesday that the government shutdown, now into its 33rd day, is the fault of Democrats and that furloughed federal workers are making a necessary sacrifice.

In an interview with Bold TV, Mrs. Trump predicted the shutdown will last “as long as these Democrats keep playing politics” and that the president “has people of the country behind him” in the fight for his border wall.

The shutdown will last “as long as it takes these Democrats to come to the table,” Mrs. Trump told Bold TV Founder Carrie Sheffield. “It’s going to last as long as it takes for [Trump] to get his wall.”

After lamenting that Trump had to give up his Christmas vacation and forego “getting a tan” at Mar-a-Lago, Mrs. Trump had a message for government workers who are either furloughed or being forced to work for free:

“Listen, it’s not fair to you, we all get that. But this is so much bigger than any one person. It is a little bit of pain, but it’s going to be for the future of our country. And their children and grandchildren and generations after them will thank them for their sacrifice right now. I know it’s hard.”

Mrs. Trump urged workers to “please stay strong” and that “we appreciate everything you’re sacrificing.”

An enraged Twitterverse went ballistic over Mrs. Trump’s gleeful indifferece.

The Trumps have not sacrificed anything.

The workers did not ask for this.

Former George W. Bush speechwriter David Frum pointed to a new CBS News poll showing that 71 percent of Americans do not think Trump’s fight for a border wall is worth shutting down the government.

The American people are not behind the president on this.

People are pissed.
