The office of First Lady Melania Trump released a statement on Sunday regarding President Donald Trump’s policy of separating immigrant families from their children at the U.S.-Mexican border.
“Mrs. Trump hates to see children separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform,” the statement says. “She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart.”

The statement echoes a Friday press release which blames Democrats for the policy.
This is Orwellian stuff. WH claiming in this email that family separations are policy of congressional Democrats. It’s a Trump policy announced by the administration and carried out by the administration. Not to mention GOP controls Congress. pic.twitter.com/5AduQAK9tj

Comedian Kathy Griffin the tore into the First Lady on Twitter for pushing the lie that “both sides” are responsible for the family separation policy. “You know damn well your husband can end this immediately,” Griffin wrote.
Griffin then called “Melanie” Trump a “feckless complicit piece of sh*t.”
Fuck you, Melanie. You know damn well your husband can end this immediately…you feckless complicit piece of shit. https://t.co/5NsoFgMuLr

Yup. I stand by my tweet. The First Lady Melanie’s statement was disgraceful. https://t.co/K9s5S9DOMx

In May, comedian Samantha Bee called Ivanka Trump a “feckless c*nt” for having not done anything to convince the president to stop ripping families apart at the southern border. “He listens to you,” Bee added.
Walter Schaub, Senior Director of ethics for Campaign Legal, defended Griffin’s harsh language. The First Lady is “actively participating in deceiving the American people about the human rights violations her husband is committing,” Schaub said.
Some may wring their hands over the naughty words here, but if there was ever a time for naughty words in this world it is EXACTLY when the president’s spouse is actively participating in deceiving the American people about the human rights violations her husband is committing.

Last month, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that children of parents attempting to enter into the United States across our border with Mexico would be separated from their parents.
There is no law authorizing or requiring the separation of children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexican border.
The Trump administration created and has unilaterally enforced this policy, effectively weaponizing the border patrol in an attempt to curb illegal immigration, including those who are seeking asylum in the United States.
“If you are smuggling a child, then we will prosecute you and that child will be separated from you as required by law,” the attorney general said at an event in Scottsdale, Arizona. “If you don’t like that, then don’t smuggle children over our border.“
Sessions added that “we don’t want to separate families, but we don’t want families to come to the border illegally. This is just the way the world works.”
There were some harsh reactions on Twitter.
The Trump administration sure doesn’t act decent . I don’t enjoy being lied to every day of the week, can we even go a day without chaos, scandals or Russians?

@FLOTUS’ statement in this situation is the equivalent of the GOP’s “thoughts & prayers” response to school shootings.

Does she know how the government works? Seems someone could brief her. Her husband, a poor excuse for a father, could easily fix this regardless of what either side of the aisle thinks – if he wasn’t a horrible person!

FLOTUS statement is not a break from her husband for God Sakes! Read it again. She is only perpetuating his lie that it is the Democrats or Congress that have caused this. He alone can stop it, 2,000 children taken from their parents in SIX WEEKS. She is a liar also.
