There is no law authorizing or requiring the separation of children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexican border.
The Trump administration created and has unilaterally enforced this policy, effectively weaponizing the border patrol in an attempt to curb illegal immigration, including those who are seeking asylum in the United States.
“If you are smuggling a child, then we will prosecute you and that child will be separated from you as required by law,” the attorney general said at an event in Scottsdale, Arizona. “If you don’t like that, then don’t smuggle children over our border.“
Sessions added that “we don’t want to separate families, but we don’t want families to come to the border illegally. This is just the way the world works.”
There were some harsh reactions on Twitter.
The Trump administration sure doesn’t act decent . I don’t enjoy being lied to every day of the week, can we even go a day without chaos, scandals or Russians?

@FLOTUS’ statement in this situation is the equivalent of the GOP’s “thoughts & prayers” response to school shootings.

Does she know how the government works? Seems someone could brief her. Her husband, a poor excuse for a father, could easily fix this regardless of what either side of the aisle thinks – if he wasn’t a horrible person!

FLOTUS statement is not a break from her husband for God Sakes! Read it again. She is only perpetuating his lie that it is the Democrats or Congress that have caused this. He alone can stop it, 2,000 children taken from their parents in SIX WEEKS. She is a liar also.
