Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Just Presided Over the House of Representatives for the First Time and People Had One Thing to Say

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has had a wealth of firsts since her surprise victory in the 14th District of New York's primary last summer.

Today marked yet another first as the Congresswoman presided over the House of Representatives, becoming the youngest woman in the nation's history to do so.

All members of the majority party rotate to temporarily oversee the House during daily business. Ocasio-Cortez presided over the course of an hour during floor speeches at the end of daily business.

The rotation is customary, yet with self-described Democratic Socialist Ocasio-Cortez—whose election, to many, represented a turning point in the Democratic base from its trademark moderation—people made one similar comment:

People acted like proud parents.

And could easily imagine what the future may hold for AOC.

Congratulations, Congresswoman.
