Freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Thursday fired back at Republicans who booed her for voting to elect Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as the 52nd Speaker of the House.
Pelosi claimed the speakership for the second time, defeating California Republican Kevin McCarthy 220-192.
Ocasio-Cortez, 29, was the only member of Congress to receive jeers from the opposing party. She has drawn national attention since her upset primary victory over Joe Crowley, formerly the 4th most powerful Democrat in the House, last year.
“Over 200 members voted for Nancy Pelosi today, yet the GOP only booed one: me,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter following the vote. “Don’t hate me cause you ain’t me, fellas.”

I think she’s fantastic. And she doesn’t strike me as a champagne socialist. I’m optimistic and expecting good things.

I love you!! Stay strong! The way they are trying to smear you means they fear you! I'm a 71 year old Grandma…I support you and wish you were my Representative instead the Republican I'm stuck with.

Republicans clearly fear her star power and unapologetic progressive populism.
