Capcom has announced a 2018 release of Mega Man 11 today for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC. It was also revealed that the new game will be ushered in with an earlier release of previous Mega Man games, which will also be coming to Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
But what is the rumored date of Mega Man 11 release?
Capcom has stated that the game will come out "late 2018." As of now, what "late" means is currently unknown. Game Informer, which keeps a running calendar of all 2018 video game release dates, only has releases posted up to April with We Happy Few. As fans have stated on social media, the animation in the trailer appears to be "rushed," so it is unclear how complete the game actually is.
I'm gonna hope that Mega Man 11 trailer was rushed out for this announcement cos those animations CANNOT be finished christ— [B L A Z I N G] Matt Leslie (@[B L A Z I N G] Matt Leslie)1512417169.0

Whatever "late 2018" means, one thing fans can expect is that Mega Man 11 will be released on a Tuesday or a Friday in the United States. The industry standard of a Tuesday release dates back to November 24, 1992, when the Sega marketing team of Al Nilsen and Madeline Schroeder were thinking of ways to promote Sonic the Hedgehog 2. They came up with "Sonic 2sday." In the book Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, and the Battle That Defined a Generation, author Blake Harris, who interviewed Nilsen and Schroeder, writes:
... the idea of a coordinated worldwide release might have seemed interesting but irrelevant. But the point of the global launch wasn't to dazzle with concept; the point was that the concept created connection.
Normally, with games released at different stores on different days, customers couldn't help but feel like these things sort of fell out of thin air. But to know the exact date that something would be arriving, to have it circled on the calendar ahead of time, gave the gift of anticipation.
Business Insider adds, "Releasing games on Tuesday is now the industry standard in the US, all thanks to a little video game punnery. But it's not the only industry to do so. Although they don't have Sonic 2sday to thank, most CD and DVD releases also happen on Tuesdays."
As for Friday, video game companies have increasingly been releasing games just before the weekend. In 2018, about a quarter of all announced release dates choosing to forego the traditional Tuesday release for Friday.
