Why Isn’t ‘Saturday Night Live’ on Tonight? 03/24/18

For what feels like every Saturday since the 1970s, Saturday Night Live has overtaken ABCs airwaves with its debauchery and hilarity. Starring talent like Beck Bennett, Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, Kenan Thompson, and Mikey Day, SNL has continued to entertain with skits revolving around Donald Trump and other current events.

On March 24, 2018, however, SNL is not scheduled to be airing at its regular time. The live sketch comedy production is slated to return on April 7, 2018 at its normal time slot with Chadwick Boseman stepping in as host. The rising star recently made waves with his portrayal of the titular character in Marvel’s Black Panther. Joining Boseman for the show’s return is musical performer Cardi B, who’s best known for songs like Bodak Yellow and Finesse.

As for ABC’s scheduling for tonight, there doesn’t appear to be any significantprogramming in its place tonight. 20/20 will air at 10 pm EST, covering the story of Amber Vanhecke, who got lost during her Spring Break trip in the Grand Canyon. For the Saturday Night Live time slot, programming schedules only show “Local Programming” listed, meaning the show is likely taking a brief hiatus and wasn’t pushed for more important programming. The same goes for next Saturday, March 31.

It’s odd for the show to be taking a two-week hiatus, especially as the gears of the world keep turning and its focus character, Donald Trump, continues to provide material to work off of. Saturday Night Live is currently in its 43rd season, which, with the exception of one episode, has been airing live across all four time zones. It was a scheduling change made during the final four episodes of season 42 that was likely done to boost ratings beyond the eastern time slot.
